Proper Care:

    • Store Your Brush in Dry Area: Bamboo is a natural material that keeps best when kept in a dry area. Enclosed toothbrush cups that collect water are not ideal. It’s best to keep your toothbrush in an open-air toothbrush holder or any other dry area.
    • Cleaning the Bristles: You can wash and care for our soft plant-based bristles just like a conventional toothbrush.
    • Your Bamboo Handle: Bamboo is natural woody material that will fade over time. The bamboo on the top portion of your toothbrush that goes in your mouth may begin to appear lighter and faded with use. This is normal! It will not affect your brushing experience.
    • Toothbrush Lifespan: With proper care, our ecological bamboo toothbrush will last just as long as a conventional plastic toothbrush. The American Dental Association recommends replacing your toothbrush every 3 months, or when the bristles have frayed.
Proper Disposal:
    • Disposal of the Toothbrush: The different parts of the toothbrush can be disassembled for proper disposal. The bristles are not biodegradable. All toothbrush bristles are very small and lightweight: curbside recycling may not work. For example, if one were to simply throw the bristles into a big curbside recycling bin, they can easily get lost and will not make it through the recycling process. Try working out a solution with your local recycling facility – but if no solution can be found, the bristles will have to be landfilled. In total, this will result in less than 0.01 ounces of plastic waste (a dramatic improvement from plastic toothbrushes). Using pliers, it is easy to remove the bristles from the head. Doing so will also remove a small metal staple that is used to clamp the bristles to the handle. This metal staple is normal in toothbrush manufacturing and is also present in all plastic toothbrushes. The handle can be upcycled or composted at home.
    • Reuse or Compost Handle: The bare toothbrush handle can be disposed of in a commercial composting bin and will safely return to the soil within 6 months. Or you can compost it in your own home. However, the handle is a perfectly good piece of high quality bamboo – feel free to reuse it! Plenty of our customers have used them for tagging plants, arts and crafts projects and more!
    • Disposal of Packaging: The wrapper on your toothbrush is home compostable to European and American standards. The outer box is also biodegradable and made from 100% paper. If you are disposing of the wrapper in a commercial composting system, always check findacomposter.com to ensure you are sending it to the right place. You may find some creative reuses for the box. Dispose of the box in a recycling or green waste bin.
